Le quantità: something else, someone else, what else (qualcos'altro, qualcun altro, che altro)

Impariamo un nuovo modo per dire "altro"...

Le quantità: qualcos'altro, qualcun altro, che altro, ecc.

Else /els/ significa altro, ma si usa in un modo diverso rispetto a other (Lezione 72). Possiamo usarlo dopo un pronome interrogativo (come what), dopo uno dei composti di some, any, every e no (Lezione 98), e dopo much (Lezione 79):

ELSE (altro)
- What else is there? - There's not much else. Just a bed and a wardrobe.	- Che altro c'è (lì)? - Non c'è tanto altro. Soltanto un letto e un armadio.
- Have you got anything else for me? - Nothing else, sir. That's all.	- Hai qualcos'altro per me? - Nient'altro, signore. È tutto.
- Is there anyone else there? - No, there's no one else there.	- C'è qualcun altro (lì)? - No, non c'è nessun altro (lì).
- That's not my problem. It's somebody else's problem.	- Quello non è un problema mio. È il problema di qualcun'altro.

Alcune osservazioni

Chiariamo bene la differenza tra other/another e else. I primi si mettono prima di un nome o di un pronome, il secondo si mette dopo:

OTHER/ANOTHER (prima di un nome/pronome)	ELSE (dopo un pronome)
- What other choice have we got? ~~- What else choice...~~ - Che altra scelta abbiamo?	- What else have you got in your bag? ~~- What other have you got...~~ - Che altro hai in borsa?
- She's in love with another man now. - È innamorata di un altro uomo adesso.	- She's in love with someone else now. - È innamorata di qualcun altro adesso.
